  • 1989 – BA in Secondary Education from Concordia University in River Forest, IL
  • 12 Years Experience Teaching 4th Grade
  • Trained and Experienced in Kagan Cooperative Learning (Kagan is a program that promotes cooperation, leadership and communication in the classroom to achieve engagement and fun while learning.)

My name is Janice Sickels and I am thrilled that God has led me to CELA!

I grew up in Milwaukee and was blessed to attend Ebenezer Lutheran School, Martin Luther High School, and then Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois.  I graduated from Concordia in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and a major in math.

I spent the next 13 years as an administrative and executive assistant for various companies including GE Medical Systems and Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin.

When my youngest son started kindergarten, I volunteered in his classroom each day and loved it.  I took a third-grade teaching job the next year and have been teaching ever since.  I taught third grade for five years and have been teaching fourth grade for the last 12 years.  God has called me to and blesses me daily in this career.

I have 23 years of volunteer teaching experience at church including Pre-K and Fourth-Grade Sunday School, Youth Group, Vacation Bible School and Adult Bible Classes.

My husband and I have lived in several different states over the years, but have recently returned to Southeastern Wisconsin to be close to my family.

We are proud parents of our grown children:

  • Whitney and her husband, Heath, who own a cat café in Chattanooga;
  • John Jr. and his wife, Chelsea, parents of our precious grandson, Calvin;
  • Michael, who is a structural engineer and moving soon to an ecovillage in Rutledge, Missouri;
  • Maxwell, who is working for Aldi in Valparaiso, Indiana.

When I’m not at work, I love to spend time with family and friends, practice yoga, walk my dogs, ride bikes with my husband, cook and volunteer at church and in the community.

I am honored to be part of this amazing CELA team.  With God’s guidance and your prayers, I look forward to upholding the mission and pillars that make CELA unique.

Thank you for sharing your children with me.  They are among God’s greatest gifts.  I look forward to partnering with you to make their fourth-grade journey a fabulous one!
