My name is Nicholas Clowers and I am honored to be joining the team at CELA this coming year. Teaching is more than a career to me, it’s truly a calling from God. I have been teaching in one capacity or another for over 20 years now. I grew up just north of Dallas, Texas, but I have had the opportunity to live in many areas around the country. Coming from Dallas, my experience is unique; I am a professional ice skater and continue to coach world class athletes in Figure Skating & Hockey respectfully. I have worked with adolescents in coaching, training, and teaching capacities, for more than 20 years. Most recently I taught at Carrollton Classical Academy in Texas for grades 7-9. In addition to my classes, I was also the sponsor for the yearbook, director for Hamlet &amo; Peter Pan, and chairperson for the NJHS. In the realm of academia it is paramount that the students can connect with and respect their teachers. That is why I adopted a policy many years ago regarding respect as it pertains to the students. Over the years of coaching on the ice, and teaching in a classroom, I make sure that the students feel a sense of respect from me, and I expect that same gesture in return. I believe that this creates a model for them to assimilate into as they grow and mature. I strive to make the classroom environment fun and engaging, leading to better listening skills, and critical thinking.
