My name is Jennifer Blahnik. I grew up in Green Bay, WI and attended Indiana University in Bloomington where I double majored in History and Spanish. I loved learning the Spanish language in the classroom, but quickly realized that in order to master it and learn about the culture, a study abroad program was necessary. Thus, my senior year in college I studied at the Universidad Cumpultense de Madrid. After completing that year, I stayed another year taking additional courses to gain an even greater understanding of the country and its people.
Upon returning, I entered graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I earned my master’s degree in Spanish literature and linguistics.
My teaching career began while in graduate school where I taught grammar and literature to first through fourth semester undergraduate students. I continued to teach throughout the UW system for the following 5 years. I expanded my knowledge of the language by also becoming a medical interpreter at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Most recently, I taught a variety of subjects, including Spanish, at St. Charles School in Hartland, WI to 3K though middle school students.
My goals within the classroom are: to create a positive learning environment, have fun while learning, and prepare CELA students to excel and be successful in their future Spanish language studies, not only through their written work, but also in their oral competence.
I am truly looking forward to working with your children! I am very appreciative and humbled by this opportunity and look forward to meeting you.
