“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13) No truer words can describe my path to finding CELA!
I am truly blessed and humbled to join the CELA family as the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Coordinator. I am excited to partner with and coach teachers in providing exceptional Christian learning experiences that build the leadership capacity of each student. Our strong curriculum paired with proven assessment measures are exactly the foundation we need to achieve academic excellence. Equally exciting is the opportunity to partner with families in providing a unified approach to each child’s education. I believe it takes a village to raise a child and our working together will provide a consistency beneficial to all children.
You do not often hear people say “I was born to do this work,” which is why it is so special that I feel this way! Born and raised in Wisconsin, I grew up on a hobby farm in Lake Country. Blessed with the opportunity to own and care for horses, combined with an insatiable desire to learn and share my passion with others, I taught children and adults basic horseback riding skills starting in middle school and continuing through college. I led summer camps, was a youth leader in my 4-H club, as well as held multiple leadership positions in high school and my 4-H club, all while showing competitively around the state. My teaching and coaching background began long before I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Coaching wasn’t all fun and games though. On any given day you could have found me working the farm. Mucking out stalls, mending fence, and stockpiling hay bales for winter were just a few of the chores that taught me the benefits of hard work.
The foundation gained from the lessons I learned on the farm helped me persevere through challenging coursework in high school and college. I graduated from Brookfield Academy High School in pursuit of a career in veterinary medicine at University of Wisconsin – River Falls. I continued riding, competing with their equestrian team, only to realize after shadowing a few local veterinarians, that was not my calling. My true calling was teaching and coaching. I quickly transferred to Carroll University from where I was honored to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Science.
Throughout my 15 years in education, I have taught and led in multiple highly regarded and successful School Districts including Whitefish Bay, Sussex Hamilton, New Berlin, Milton and Whitnall School Districts. My teaching experience was filled with both coaching and leadership roles with both students and staff at the middle school buildings I worked in, as well as at the district level. My administrative experience has provided me with a broad perspective of how to foster a desire to learn in each child and the systems necessary for success.
My family has always been my rock and for this I am grateful. I am the youngest of three children, having one sister and one brother who both live in Northern Wisconsin. My mother is just a few miles from us in Sussex, and my father passed away in 2012. I live in Lisbon with my husband of 15 years, Joe, our two children, Bobby and Emily and our dog, Honey. You can find us in the summer camping at a beautiful Wisconsin State Park, boating around lake country, or tending our garden. Once the weather turns chilly we enjoy family game nights, campfires, and reading together. We are members of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Hartland. We look forward to our children experiencing the educational opportunities provided at CELA.
