3 Years Teaching Experience in Chicago Suburban Christian School
Hello, there! My name is Krista Simmons and I have the wonderful privilege of teaching middle school English at CELA.
I grew up in Wheaton, a west suburb of Chicago, IL. I am blessed to come from a Christian family who instilled a love of reading and writing in me from a young age. I’ve enjoyed learning and school my whole life and always kept a book and a journal by my side. Growing up, I’ve always enjoyed caring for children, serving as a nanny all through high school.
I am incredibly grateful for my four years at Hope College in Holland, MI, majoring in English Education. It was there that I met many Christian friends and further developed my love for Jesus Christ and my passion for teaching English. My experience student teaching sixth grade Language Arts and studying abroad to student teach at a British Academy taught me many valuable lessons.
After graduating and receiving my Bachelor’s degree and teaching license in Secondary English Language Arts, I returned to my hometown. I began to teach reading and writing for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade at a nearby Christian private school named St. John’s. I am so thankful for the students and families that I was able to serve there. My three years in that position affirmed my calling to serve the Lord through teaching middle school writing and reading.
My husband Tyler and I were married in June of 2017, surrounded by our friends and family, in a garden within a very special place for us, the Morton Arboretum. Trusting the Lord’s plan for our lives, we moved to Wisconsin during the summer of 2018 following Tyler’s sales job promotion at his office furniture manufacturing company, Kimball. We enjoy spending time with our family, listening to music, cooking dinner, and reading the Bible together.
I am thankful to the Lord for leading me to CELA. He beautifully orchestrated a way for me to use my gifts to serve the CELA students and families. All glory be to Christ!
