2013 – 2014 – Teaching Assistant, Materials Engineering 370 at Iowa State “Toying with Technology” focusing on LEGO Robotics
2015 – Student Teaching 8th Grade Science in Rosendal, Norway
My name is Ashley Sonderman and I am excited to be a part of the CELA family as a 6th - 8th grade science teacher. I look forward to partnering with families as we encourage students to inquire into and apply mathematical and scientific concepts in meaningful ways.
I was raised in Nashotah, WI and earned my B.S. in elementary education, with an emphasis on math and science education and a minor in learning technologies, from Iowa State University. My goal as an educator is to have students better understand the mathematical and scientific principles present in God’s creation and in their lives. I believe that learning is an active experience. Take a peek inside my classroom and you will find students investigating, analyzing, applying, and collaborating.
For that past three years, I have been partnering with K-12 classrooms as they seek to integrate engineering and robotics into their instruction. I love developing 21st century innovators with skills related to critical thinking, problem solving, and technology. I seek to continually expand my understanding of best practices in education and have therefore recently come off of a two-month teaching experience in Rosendal, Norway. While there I learned more about Scandinavian education as I taught middle school math, English, physical education, and outdoor education.
Outside of school you can find me hiking local trails, kayaking, taking in the fine arts, or reading. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of educators and families at CELA.
Above all, I am excited to share the love of Jesus Christ with the families at CELA. God has blessed me with the opportunity to connect with students and their families through my life’s passion, teaching. I look forward to getting to know my students at a deep level, supporting their acquisition of the traits and skills needed to live out their God-given purposes in life.
